It's all in Your Perspective...

I knew today was going to be a challenging day.

I was feeding the elders. My father-in-law and his wife were stopping by before or after their tax appointment. It might or might not happen all at the same time. Plus, my house wasn't exactly on this side of clean OR organized. I desperately needed a shower AND a nap {not a good combination for me}.

We were doing good. We got up and made Homemade Oreos (a total disappointment for me), ate breakfast, cleaned the kitchen, started up the dishwasher, picked up for awhile in the living room, reorganized my scrapbooking papers {they had started to establish residency on our dining room table} and felt pretty good about life.

We ate lunch. Laid down for those wonderfully blessed naps.

Then everything hit the fan.

CB woke up with raging diaper rash - poor little booty. The dishwasher didn't WASH the dishes, it BAKED ON the residue of the last supper. While re-washing the dishes and re-loading the dishwasher, CB took apart his ENTIRE toy shelf, book shelf, kitchen, AND crayon/coloring book kit {I now take the stance that he has WAAAAAAYYYYY too many toys}. ANNNDDD the hashbrowns never defrosted for Funeral Potatoes, so while I was chipping away at those almost an entire Kitchen Aid Mixer Bowl full of Oreo Filling found it's way to the floor. Then as I cleaned up the Oreo Filling, B unloaded the entire dirty dishwasher full of dishes into the clean ones.

My perspective?
  • I finally hands-and-knees mopped around the stove/Kitchen Aid Mixer.
  • I can guarantee that every dish in my cupboard is clean - 100% clean.
  • I now have ALL the motivation in the world to weed through CB's toys.
  • My Father-in-Law has now seen me with no make-up, hair in a nasty headband, cleaning clothes. He can't see me in much worse!
  • Bed will be the most AMAZING thing tonight.

We ended up separating the kids toys in bins, like all the blocks together, all the car together, etc, etc, and then I just pull out 2 or 3 bins a month. It makes clean up easier, only 3 different boxes, and the kids love it when I get out new stuff (its kinda like christmas) and it makes the mess more managable. Plus I feel like it makes them play with things they wouldn't otherwise. Like stuffed animals, compared to cars they are boring, but when they are one of the only things out its fun to see what they come up with!
